Crowding out foods

Foods in balance

The first thing people do when they decide they need to go on a diet is start to think of all the foods they can’t eat anymore.  We usually form it in our minds like that, too.  “This food has to go forever.  I better get as much as I can right now.”

We believe that the food is the sole cause of all this weight.  “If only I could stop eating xyz, I could lose weight.”

It is not long before a deprivation mindset begins.  We start to think of all the things we can’t have, aren’t good for us, “oh, yeah.  I ate a bag of those yesterday.”  In reality, any expert in food or nutrition is going to tell you that you can eat what you want, you just have to use moderation.

We, as American’s, aren’t so good with this concept of moderation.  We want it all,

Getting Rid of Food Guilt

Guilt Free Eating

by Tamara Flanders

Guilt: The state of being responsible for the commission of an offense. Nourish: To provide with food or other substances necessary for life and growth. To keep alive.

Food guilt.  It creeps up in the most vulnerable of places. If you suffer from food guilt, you know it’s path all too well. You’re hungry. Your body is asking for food.  You make a choice, good or bad, and all the time you are eating it, you’re calculating calories, point value, how many ingredients are in there that you “shouldn’t be eating” and the entire meal is ruined.

The guilt manifests. It makes you do crazy things like obsess about calories, restrict food, even when you are dizzy from hunger. It makes you over eat, because you were already “bad”, so why not keep going.  It makes you doubt your worth, your right to a healthy and satisfied body,

Creating Balance

Have your weight struggles gone on for so long you don’t remember what it is like to enjoy eating? Do you worry about every calorie you eat? Are you tired of counting, charting, and weighing your food?

Creating Balance

All of these are the result of yo-yo dieting.  Yo-Yo dieting is the constant search for that perfect diet to help you lose weight and feel good without being deprived, eating food you wouldn’t feed your dog and worrying about being “bad”.  Yo-yo dieting has been linked to increased weight gain and poor health in the long term.  As each new diet plan fails it affects your self-confidence as well.  If you have been challenged by your food you are not alone.

There is so much conflicting information about nutrition on the market. In fact, nutrition is a very new science and there is a lot the scientific community doesn’t
