Any one who has ever tried to lose weight by diet­ing has come up against crav­ings.  Often times we are told to just not eat the food our body is demand­ing.  The prob­lem with this think­ing is, in real­ity, crav­ings are bril­liant sig­nals from our body.

This per­cep­tion that crav­ings are a fail­ure to stick to our diets is inac­cu­rate.  We think, “If only we had the willpower to over­come our weak­ness we could be thin.” When we look at what crav­ings do for our body, we real­ize they are our body’s means of telling us what it needs.  When we under­stand what these sig­nals are for, we are able to make choices that sup­port our health and weight loss.

Affir­ma­tions are the big thing being pro­moted to help change your think­ing about anx­ious top­ics. A Valentine’s Home Spa Day

Love is in the air and it’s time to cel­e­brate. Valentine’s Day is all about love, as it should be.  From years of expe­ri­ence I remem­ber feel­ing a bit resent­ful of all the peo­ple cel­e­brat­ing love when I felt there was none in my life.  Think­ing about how dif­fi­cult it is to be alone on Valentine’s Day, I real­ized it would have been eas­ier to take if I had shifted my focus on cre­at­ing more love in my single life.

There­fore, I pro­pose mak­ing Valentine’s Day a day of love for our­selves.  Whether you are sin­gle or have a love, cel­e­brate by hav­ing a home spa day for your­self.  Tak­ing time to make your body feel alive, healthy and shin­ing will lift your spir­its in ways an entire box of choco­lates (or pint of Ben and Jerry’s) won’t do.

Guilt: The state of being respon­si­ble for the com­mis­sion of an offense. Nour­ish: To pro­vide with food or other sub­stances nec­es­sary for life and growth. To keep alive.

Food guilt.  It creeps up in the most vul­ner­a­ble of places. If you suf­fer from food guilt, you know it’s path all too well. You’re hun­gry. Your body is ask­ing for food.  You make a choice, good or bad, and all the time you are eat­ing it, you’re cal­cu­lat­ing calo­ries, point value, how many ingre­di­ents are in there that you “shouldn’t be eat­ing” and the entire meal is ruined.

The guilt man­i­fests. It makes you do crazy things like obsess about calo­ries, restrict food, even when you are dizzy from hunger. It makes you over eat, because you were already “bad”, so why not keep going.  It makes you doubt your worth, your right to a healthy and sat­is­fied body,

Share a Wish

Love and grat­i­tude per­me­ate the air this hol­i­day sea­son. It is the one time a year, we col­lec­tively look around and appre­ci­ate those in our lives. We cel­e­brate and remind each other of what makes life truly valu­able (I’m not talk­ing about presents  . There is no bet­ter time to give thanks for our life and look for­ward to new begin­nings as we start another year.

In our fam­ily we cel­e­brate sev­eral tra­di­tions.  Today we cel­e­brate Sol­stice which is the change between autumn and win­ter.  It is the dark­est day of the year.  The cel­e­bra­tion is to wel­come back the return of the light.  We share our hopes for the com­ing year and cel­e­brate with a cer­e­mony, a time of giv­ing and a feast.

We also cel­e­brate Christ­mas and Santa.  But today is Sol­stice so I want to share my Sol­stice tra­di­tion of shar­ing a wish.  Wishes are like free magic.

Sparky Linda Mortimer

Yes­ter­day after­noon we received the most heart-wrenching news.  A very dear and beloved friend of our fam­ily and the spirit mother to our chil­dren was found life­less in her bed.  Sparky Linda Mor­timer was a blessed woman who put a smile on the face of every per­son who knew her.  In Sparky’s pres­ence every per­son felt the love in her heart.  You knew in that moment you were loved by a truly spe­cial woman.  She knew how to share her joy with every­one and made a point of mak­ing laugh­ter a con­stant in every event.

There are no words for the sad­ness run­ning through an inter­na­tional com­mu­nity of friends who call Sparky fam­ily.  Sparky left behind no sur­viv­ing rel­a­tives but we all feel the loss of our sis­ter friend.

Sparky’s dream was to cre­ate a restau­rant where peo­ple could gather, share whole­some food and many laughs.  Her
