Sea Buckthorn ~ The New Wonder Drug?

Sea Buckthorn Berries

Sea Buckthorn is an ancient superfood emerging from Asia. It has been used there for centuries to treat skin and digestive conditions. Even today it is commonly used in Tibetan medicine.  More recently it is proving to be beneficial for strong heart health. Dr. Oz is on board in his June 2011 show featuring Sea Buckthorn.

Sea Buckthorn grows in Tibet in the highland plains.  It is not edible until the berries have been “bletted” (frosted to reduce astringency and increase sugar). Then the berries can be turned into juice and the seeds are used for their oil content.  The oil can be taken in supplement form or used as a skin moisturizer.  The whole berries can be freeze-dried and turned into supplements as well.

Why is Sea Buckthorn Different?

Sea Buckthorn should not be confused with Alder Buckthorn or European Buckthorn.  While those are used for their laxative properties, Sea

Fit Moms for Life

A New Year A New Me event is going fantastic.  I’m so excited to introduce you to our final sponsor spotlight for this event.

Dustin Maher is a nationally renowned personal trainer who has helped hundreds of moms to get and stay fit.  He has been on television over 200 times talking about his work to make moms look and feel great.  His book, Fit Moms for Life: How to Have Endless Energy to Outplay Your Kids, is a wonderful resource for anyone looking to change how they feel in their body.

This book is refreshing in it’s approach.  I have read dozens of diet/exercise books in my career as a health enthusiast.  I’ve probably tried as many methodologies.

Maher’s approach to food is well-balanced.  He advocates a low-crap diet, by removing the processed, chemically laden foods from the diet. I love that he doesn’t insist people avoid whole categories of macronutrients

Hint Water

First, I have to say I am so excited about this giveaway event.  A New Year, A New Me was conceived to promote health and wellness in the new year.  Ok, now on to the first sponsor spotlight.

Water is one of the most important tools for any attempts to create a healthier lifestyle.  Besides being essential for the body to work properly, it creates suppleness and flexibility within the body.  It also makes your skin look amazing.

One of the things I hear most often from clients is that water is too boring.  They don’t like the lack of flavor.  We live in a culture that likes big flavor and foods that excite.  Until now I have been telling people to add fresh juice to their water, like lemon, lime or orange.  It isn’t ideal but I will do whatever it takes to get my clients to drink

Miles Outside Baby Food

Miles Outside Baby Food

At Northeast Natural Products Expo 2011 I met a great woman who, together with her husband, created the coolest on the go baby food.  I knew I had to review her product.  Miles Outside is a dehydrated baby food company.  They make easy to carry and prepare baby food.

Here is the creation story in Courtney’s own words:

We are an active couple who love nature and being outside, and we wanted to continue our thirst for adventure after the birth of our son, Miles.

While preparing for our first camping and backpacking trip with Miles, we realized that we would need a baby food that meets the same high standards that we apply at home. Before we embarked on our Appalachian Trail excursion, we created a dehydrated food for babies that is easy to prepare, light to carry, and above all… nutritious and organic! Miles loved it, so

Moso Natural

Moso Natural air purifier

Moso Natural offers a unique air purifier designed to remove unwanted odors, harmful pollutants, bacteria and allergens. Moso bags are made of 100% bamboo charcoal. The porous and absorbent nature of the bamboo charcoal removes odors and excess moisture to neutralize airborne mold spores.

There are many air purifiers on the market these days.  Many of them contain chemicals and scents that cover up odors.  With Moso bags, the charcoal actually absorbs the odors and filter them out of the air.  Bamboo charcoal is non-toxic and safe to use around pets and children.  The charcoal effectiveness lasts up to 2 years.

The bamboo charcoal is activated by the sun.  Once a month it needs to be placed in direct sunlight to get the full effectiveness from the Moso bag.  The charcoal is effective for up to two years.  Once it loses it’s potency, the bamboo charcoal

Woolzies Eco-Friendly Dryer Balls

If you have been reading my blog for any amount of time you know that I love all things wool.  The more I learn about wool the more I love it.  It is naturally anti-bacterial so it doesn’t retain body smells from wearing it.  It is water absorbent making it great for active people who love the outdoors in all weather. It comes in all manner of colors and thicknesses making it a truly versatile fabric.

When I stumbled upon Woolzies at Expo East 2011 I just had to try them out for just these reasons:

Regular fabric softeners, both in liquid and sheet form, contain numerous harsh chemicals which are toxic to the environment and even more dangerous to many people who have serious allergic reactions to them. What could possibly make #tea better?

Teaguys

The first time I drank tea made by Teaguys I was amazed at the bold combinations they offered.  Cracked coffee beans with black tea and spices, maple syrup and tea, whole chunks of dehydrated fruits and flower petals.  The appearance of their teas pull you in. You just have to know how it tastes. And they certainly deliver on the taste.

Chocolate Chai

Chocolate Chai with whole pieces of chocolate melted into the tea was my is my favorite flavor so far.  You could taste the richness even before adding anything.  There were actual pieces of chocolate throughout the tea blend.  A touch of honey and milk and it is the perfect end to a day.

Green Walnut

Then you get into the wonderful world of their black and green teas.  Their Morning Americano has a smooth blend of bold black teas.  The green tea I liked best was the Green
